The paper-based version
of the GRE exam is slightly longer, lasting three and three-fourths an hour
with five sections. This version may also include an unrevealed pretest section
that doesn’t count towards the final score and appears anywhere after
the writing section.
In July 2003, rules changed
for the GRE test so that every candidate taking the exam would be required to
word process their essay responses on the analytical writing section.
Research studies show that
verbal and quantitative scores on the computer-based test are comparable to
paper-based test scores.
