| What is the
GRE? |
The GRE offers
two different tests: the GRE
General Test and the GRE
Subject Test.
The General
Test is not specific to any one field of study and includes
the following three sections:
Analytical writing section: assesses critical thinking
and writing skills.
Verbal section: tests candidates' ability to analyze
and evaluate written material and interpret information from it.
Candidates also much analyze relationships among component parts
of sentences, recognize relationships between words and concepts
and reason with words in solving problems.
Quantitative section: a combination of arithmetic,
algebra, geometry and data analysis.
Find out from the
admissions office of the colleges you are applying to if a Subject
Test is required by the department you want to join. It is
offered in eight specific fields including: Biochemistry, Cell and
Molecular Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Physics,
Literature in English, Mathematics, and Psychology. Each Subject Test
is intended for students who have majored in or have extensive background
in that specific area.

| GRE Test Preparation |
It is essential to properly prepare for the GRE.
Inadequate
preparation results in poor testing decisions, rushing, missing easy
questions, nervousness, and, worst of all, poor GRE test scores. In
order to get into the graduate program of your choice, you MUST do
well on your GRE. Schools do not look just at undergraduate GPA.
Time
management is probably the MOST important
aspect of the test that can be learned. The reason is because if
you had no time limit, you could answer most, if not all, of the
test questions correctly. This
makes it essential to place the majority of your preparation on
practicing time management. It is also important that you study,
take practice tests, and take a prep course. These three elements
will increase your time management ability.

| Practice
Tests |
Practice tests
are the key to performing well on the GRE. Using past GRE exams allows
you to become more familiar with the test's format, the type of questions,
and difficulty levels. There are many practice tests available in books
and online resources. The book section below lists a few suggested
resources. Ask your friends or test prep instructors for suggestions
as well.
But just using the
past tests is not enough. Test prep experts agree that practicing UNDER
TIMED CONDITIONS best prepares you for the pressures of test day.
Taking practice tests
under real time pressure is essential in improving pacing. This real
time pressure can be simulated by taking old tests along with THE SILENT
TIMER™. This process can greatly improve your time management
which results in a higher score. Even though you cannot bring the
timer into your test, THE SILENT TIMER™ is still the number one
practice tool.
If you are
taking a preparation course from The
Princeton Review, Kaplan, Gorilla
Test Prep, or another great test prep company, you already know how
important having a timer is to doing well on your test.

your answering speed far beyond what you thought possible,
learn to beat your test time and get the score you deserve.
Here's
How It Works
